Let’s talk about the Phiaton BT 220 NC, this Bluetooth earbud that offers quality noise cancelling and wireless technology, making it a great option for those not willing to spend $300 on the Bose QC. Let’s see if it is worthy of our hard-earned money or if we should look elsewhere.
First, I’ll explain for those that don’t know, what is the Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) technology:
Basically, it is the external sound cancelling through a technology called DSP (digital signal processing), that cancels some sound waves around you. Without the technical stuff, inside the headphone there is a microphone and an audio processor that captures the sound around you and plays an opposite sound to cancel the first one.
It’s worth to note that no noise cancelling headphone is perfect and cannot cancel all background noise, however, it cancels up to 90% of external sounds on a relatively quiet to moderately noisy places.
Now, without further ado, let’s start the review.
Considering these are noise cancelling and Bluetooth, I thought the sound wouldn’t be so good, but considering the price, the ANC and Bluetooth, they sound better than a lot of wired models. Offering the Bluetooth 4.0 with the apt-X technology, they sound great. The bass isn’t overpowered which I value a lot, mids are well detailed with crisp highs that are well defined. The Phiaton BT 220 NC doesn’t offer an audiophile experience, but a lot of demanding costumers will be pleased here.
The Phiaton BT 220 NC features huge drivers (14.3mm) for an in-ear, which might be a good thing for sound quality, aesthetically, it doesn’t look so great. The wires are thick so I don’t think these would be a problem for a long time, and it also has an aluminium finish which brings a more “premium” feel to the product .
Comfort and Fit
The Phiaton BT 220 NC is really comfortable, but it takes some time to get used to the huge drivers. If you choose the right set of ear tips, you’ll have no problems with the fit. Besides that, the design is sleek and lightweight, making it a great choice to use in the office to get that well-deserved peace at the end of the day.
Style, Accessories and Extras
The Phiaton BT 220 NC is available in just one color, so you have to get used to the silver design. It also offers NFC pairing, so if your device supports it, its really easy to connect them. Besides that it offers multipoint connection that allows you to connect two Bluetooth devices at the same time. It also comes with a microphone with clear voice capture to enhance voice clarity, inline remote and you can turn on/off the ANC at any time.
You will also receive in the package: An Audio Cable, Carrying Case, 4 sizes of Silicon Ear tips, 1 pair of Comply Foam ear Tips, Neck Strap and of course, the USB Charging Cable. Battery time is above average, with good 10-15 hours of music playback with ANC on. Phiaton also offers a 1-year warranty on this product.
Pros and Cons
- Detailed sound
- Good battery time
- Take some time to get used to the huge drivers
